Community chat, roles and server feeds
Your community chat on Farm Sim Game: channels and categories, staff roles and permissions, and game server alerts in it, each sent to the channel you pick: online and offline, joins and leaves, a live status card, admins, mods, farm and savegame alerts, restarts and sessions, with notices for followers or staff.
On this page
Your community chat lives on your page's Chat tab and in the Farm Sim Game app. It's separate from your Discord server: nothing is copied between them unless you sync a channel with Discord (see Sync with Discord below). Players who join are in every channel they can see.
Every community starts with three channels:
- #announcements: an announcement channel. Only your staff post here; anyone can read it, even before joining, and your followers get a notice when you post (at most one every half hour).
- #general: your original community chat.
- #server-help: questions and problems on your servers.
Categories, roles and permissions are free for every community. With an FSG Supporter tier you can also add up to 10 channels of your own.
Chat settings#
Open your chat and click Chat settings in the channel list (or go to Chat & server feeds in your dashboard). It works like a Discord server's settings, with three parts:
- Channels: add categories, put channels in them, rename and reorder channels and categories, and choose who can see and post in each one.
- Roles: make roles for your staff, give each a colour, and choose what it can do.
- Members: find people in your chat and give them roles. You can also click a name in the chat's member list and tick roles there.
Who can see and post in a channel#
A channel no one has changed is open: everyone in your chat sees it and posts in it. Each channel and category has a list of your roles with Can see and Can post:
- For a staff channel, untick @everyone and tick your staff roles. Players without those roles don't see the channel at all, on the website or in the app.
- For a read-only channel, leave Can see on for @everyone and turn Can post off.
- Posting includes seeing, so ticking Can post ticks Can see too.
- A channel in a category can sync with it: it then uses the category's permissions, so changing the category changes all of them at once. Turn sync off to give one channel its own.
Owners and Administrators see and post in every channel.
An announcement channel can be read by visitors before they join the chat, its latest posts can show on your page, and with Tell followers on, a staff post there sends your followers a notice.
Roles and permissions#
Roles are listed from the top down. A member holds every permission of all their roles. Their name takes the colour of their highest coloured role, and they're listed under their highest role that has Show separately in the member list on.
| Permission | What it lets them do |
|---|---|
| Manage channels | Add, edit, move and delete channels and categories, and choose who can see and post in them. |
| Manage roles | Add and edit roles, and give or take them, for roles with only permissions they have themselves. |
| Manage messages | Delete other people's messages and pin messages. |
| Time out members | Stop someone posting for 10 minutes, an hour or a day. |
| Ban members | Remove someone from every channel, and let them back. |
| Administrator | Every permission, and sees and posts in every channel. Only owners can give it. |
Owners are the people who run your community: its owner and managers on FSG, and anyone who can manage your Discord server (owner, Administrator or Manage Server) once they've opened the chat signed in. They're above every role. To keep your staff safe from each other:
- Only owners give or take Administrator.
- Someone with Manage roles can only change, give and take roles whose permissions they have themselves.
- Staff (anyone holding a permission) can only be timed out or banned by owners and Administrators. No one can moderate an owner.
If your chat had moderators before roles came in, they now hold a Moderator role with Manage messages, Time out members and Ban members.
Game server alerts#
Each of your game servers can post what happens on it in your chat, the same things the bot posts to your Discord channels. You choose where each alert goes: the server's own feed channel, any of your other channels, or nowhere. Nothing here changes what the bot posts in Discord.
Every game server gets its own feed channel by itself, listed under Server feeds in your chat. A new server's feed starts with online and offline, joins and leaves, admin changes, mod list changes, farming sessions and the player count in its topic. A feed that nothing posts in is hidden from your chat. Alert messages come from the server, marked SERVER: players can read and react. The latest changes also show in the Server activity section of your page.
The Website chat tab is laid out like the Discord tab, in the same sections and order:
| Section | Notifications |
|---|---|
| Game server notifications | Online, offline, player joins, player alerts (the server's watch list), player leaves (with playtime), the players online and overall playtime displays (in the feed channel's topic, like Discord's renamed channels) and mod changes. |
| Premium features | Player tracking and equipment tracking (a card with a link to the live map instead of a map picture), Top 25 and activity auto posts (every 1 to 24 hours), admin join and leave, and advanced offline notifications for staff. |
| Premium features - extended | Scheduled restart warnings, daily farm stats (at the hour you pick), new players, and playtime milestones (a post instead of Discord's playtime roles: your playtime role steps, or 10 to 1000 hours). |
| Auto embed | A live status card: one pinned message with who's playing, updated as it changes. |
| More alerts | Mod updates available, farmland sales, farm task activity, farming sessions, best price alerts, great demand, the contracts board, the used equipment lot, server progress, weather warnings, the weekly recap and farm alerts. |
| Link XML alerts | When we can't reach the server's Link XML. |
Each one needs exactly what it needs on the Discord tab: the same FSG Supporter tier, checked the same way. One you can't use yet shows Disabled - This is a premium feature., like in Discord.
Notify sends a notice (and an email, if they get emails) when an alert happens: to the followers of your community page, or to the server's staff (everyone who has opened its settings). That replaces Discord's role pings. Each alert sends at most 6 notices an hour.
With an FSG Supporter tier you can write your own text for online, offline, joins, leaves, admin
changes and mod changes, using {server}, {player}, {playtime}, {on} and {max}, like your
custom server messages in Discord.
Then open its Website chat tab.
Choose Don't post to leave an alert out, and Notify to tell followers or staff.
They take effect right away.
Joins, leaves, online and offline post as soon as the bot sees them. Farm and savegame alerts, new players, milestones, top players, activity and farm stats are checked every 5 minutes. The weekly recap posts on the day and hour set for the Discord weekly recap (Sunday at 6 PM until you change it), and restart warnings only come when you have restart times and a warning time set. While the player count is in the topic, the feed channel's topic is written for you.
To rename a feed channel, put it in a category or choose who can see it, use Chat settings.
Sync with Discord#
If your community is a Discord server, you can link one of your chat channels to a text channel in your Discord server, so both show the same conversation. You can link up to 10 pairs, and each website channel and each Discord channel can only be in one pair.
- Messages from the website and the app show in Discord as a bold [Website] Name or [App] Name line with the message under it, posted by the bot. Mentions don't ping anyone in Discord.
- Messages from Discord show in your chat with the member's Discord name (their server nickname if they have one) and picture, marked Discord, in their role colour. Members whose Farm Sim Game account uses that Discord account show their website role colour instead.
- Mentions come across as plain names (
@name,#channel); role pings,@everyoneand@heredon't. - Pictures go both ways (up to 4 per message). Other Discord files show as their name.
- Edits and deletes follow. A Discord message you delete on the website is hidden on the website only: delete it in Discord to remove it there.
- Members timed out or banned in your website chat (matched by their Discord account) aren't copied over from Discord.
- Bot messages and other webhooks in the Discord channel aren't copied, so nothing echoes back and forth.
Find the Sync with Discord card.
Server feed channels can't be synced: they only take the server's own posts.
The bot sets it up in Discord within a minute. The link shows Synced when it's working, or what's wrong.
Use Pause to stop copying for a while and Unlink to end it. Messages already copied stay on both sides.
Running your chat#
- Give your staff roles in Chat settings (see above). In the FSG app, anyone holding a permission shows as a mod.
- Click a name in the member list to time someone out, ban them or change their roles. Timeouts and bans count in every channel.
- Owners and roles with Manage messages can pin and delete messages.
- Players can report messages to FSG staff.
